Beat Gas Prices with GoToMyPC
No matter where you were, your last gasoline purchase was probably the highest you’ve ever paid per gallon. And $4–a–gallon prices could well be on the way.
There are some tricks to save a few cents a gallon here and there, but the only way to save a significant chunk of money on gas is to not drive. As a GoToMyPC user, you already have the tool you need to work from home.
Find out how much money telecommuting can save you with the RoadTrip Fuel Cost Calculator. Just enter the miles of your round–trip commute, your vehicle’s miles–per–gallon and the cost of fuel at the pump. Once you calculate, try multiplying by 12 – that’s how much you would save by telecommuting once a month. Now try multiplying by 52 – that’s your savings for telecommuting once a week.
Also, according to the Telework Trendlines for 2006 report (PDF), more American companies, bosses and workers are taking advantage of their telecommuting options.
Some quick numbers from the report:
- In 2006, 12.4 million Americans had permission from their employer to work from home at least one day a month – a 25–percent increase from 2005 and a 63–percent increase from 2004.
- Roughly eight percent of workers have an employer that allows them to telework at least once a month.
- The number of people who never telework dropped 24 percent from 2005 to 2006.
- The number of people who telework almost every day rose 20 percent.
The Washington Post recently profiled the National Recreation and Park Association, which is now encouraging workers to telecommute at least one day every week. According to the story, the non–profit organization made the move because rising gasoline prices were creating a financial hardship on the staff.
